We up cycle and forge D2 steel retrieved from lumber mill planer blades for the Kootenay knife.
The Kootenay has walnut scales. You can request anter or a different wood type. The finger guard is fashioned from fellar buncher chain saw bar. Copper and black locust wood follow the finger guard
We’ve lived in the bush in British Columbia, Canada. Our shop and house power comes from the sun through solar panels.

A 4.5 inch lumber mill saw steel blade, 4.5 mm (3/16") tapered spine, a 4 1/2" handle, walnut scales, a hollow ground and tapered tang, balance at the guard. The knife is equipped with a long locking lanyard.

Custom Made Hunting Knife Set

The Mt Caribou knife has a 5/16” spine, 5” edge with a 1” finger choil. A head saw tooth welded to the end of the tang for hammering and smashDouble saddle stitched by hand. Equipped with a firesteel in a loop sewn into the sheath, a pouch with a touch up diamond stone.

The Kootenay, 5” D2 steel full tang blade, both knives have: fellar buncher chain bar steel finger guards, walnut wood handle scales with acacia and copper. The scales are held by stainless steel threaded pins. Copper lanyard insert with a hand braided leather lanyard. An antler bead is woven into the lanyard.

Saw blade steel.

The “filers” lunch break. They load my 3/4 ton up with 6’ and 4.5’ circular saw blade. Huge blades, the differential on the truck touched the frame. They had left the blades in the back behind some machines for 25 years. For some reason the blades hadn’t been thrown out. They were obsolete and hadn’t been used for at least 15 years. That was in 1997. 2’ trim saw blades, planer blades and bandsaw steel. One mill gave 25 years worth of blood, sweat and tears in a few visits. We still have some in 2026.

The knife above has two lanyards. One growing from the back of the sheath with a loop on one end and one that butts it on the knife. Locking lanyards.
